Early life
Growing up. Birgitte Hjort Sørensen dreamed of being an actress. But she eventually decided not follow in her parents’ footsteps. nd go into medicine like they did. She studied at Øregård Gymnasium. Where she served as student council chairman and editor for their school magazine. Before deciding early on that this wasn’t what made sense career-wise. so when it came time to choose between following one path or another during college years? Well you know how these things work by now. if there are two options both equally rewarding then of course. Sørensen had to go with the more dangerous one!
When she was studying at the Danish National School of Performing Arts. Sørensen made her acting debut in 2005 on The Eagle. She wasn’t allowed to work because it would interfere with school studies. So instead just faked being ill for one episode and then played Roxie Hart two years later. 2007-2009 playing that same role which is still considered one if it’s best ever performances by many people today!

In 2010, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen made her breakthrough by playing the idealistic journalist Katrine Fonnmark in DR’s fictional political drama “Borgen”. The show charts Denmark’s first female Prime Minister and her rise to power. To prepare for this role she spent one summer training with television news teams & reporters which helped give critical acclaim that focused on a strong protagonist for an entire season (of 12). international recognition especially within Great Britain where people are more accepting of these types roles than others. Her career has been impressive from the start, but it’s only recently that actress Sørensen is generating much buzz. She was nominated for her first award playing an criminal psychologist in Ved Verdens Ende (2009) with Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Nikolaj Coster-waldau and won Best Actress at Robert Awards later this year when she portrayed painter Marie Krøyer during its release span 2012-2013. In addition to film work across Europe including Britain where she lives part time while working internationally on various productions
Personal Life
Birgitte Hjort Sørensen has been in a relationship with television writer and producer Kristian Ladegaard Pedersen for over 10 years. They have two daughters that they raise as an equal partnership
They share the responsibilities of childcare, housework (such as laundry), cooking dinner together every night; yet each person still gets their own space to themselves after all this time spent sharing everything else!
